“Country dancing” is not one dance. On a Dallas floor you will see a traveling two-step, a shuffle-based Progressive Double, a slow-song hold, and a waltz that travels instead of sitting in a box. If you pick the wrong first class, the night feels like a test. If you pick the one that matches the music you already hear, you leave with something you can use.
Q.01What types of country dancing will I see in Dallas?
The social country family at Studio 22 is built around Two-Step and its cousins. You will also hear people say country swing for the faster, more playful end of the same floor.
- Two-Step — taught by Bobby Pritchard (30 years teaching country and western). Smooth, progressive, danced in frame. The basic is two short walking steps (“quick-quick”) followed by two longer walking steps (“slow-slow”), with the emphasis on the slows. This is the Texas social dance you will use most.
- Progressive Double Two-Step — taught by Jim Weber. A DFW favorite. Six- and eight-count patterns: two shuffle steps with an arching lead, then two walking steps. Jim taught for years as the instructor at Cowboys Red River.
- Nightclub Two-Step — a more relaxed, stationary hold. Think “Lady in Red.” Still one of the most useful slow-song dances.
- Country Western Waltz — graceful diagonal patterns that travel continuously around the floor, different from the ballroom box waltz.
Classes are 90 minutes. Partners rotate. You leave with patterns that work on a real country floor.

Two-Step classes in Dallas
The Texas social dance you’ll use on a real country floor. No partner required.
Q.02Do I need a partner for country class?
No. Group classes rotate partners, so coming solo is normal. Rotation is how you learn to lead or follow clearly instead of memorizing one person’s habits.
If you want to stay with the same person the whole night, Studio 22’s couples-only Date Night has no rotation. Country group class is the honky-tonk version — you will dance with several people.
Never danced? That is expected. Read how to start dancing in Dallas as a beginner for the first-class checklist.
Q.03What about line dancing?
Line dancing is a solo, choreographed dance: rows, the same steps, no lead and follow. Studio 22 offers it on a rotating basis, so it is not a standing weekly class. Check the class calendar for upcoming sessions rather than assuming a night. Two-Step is the country class that stays on the schedule.
Q.04How does the $49 intro work for country?
New students get 3 beginner-friendly 90-minute group classes plus 1 Party Pass for $49 (a $137 value). You can put all three classes on two-step, try Progressive Double, or mix in another style. Classes expire 30 days from your first class, not from the day you buy. No long-term commitment. Checkout is through Mindbody.
New series start the first week of the month (the 1st through the 7th). After you buy, call (972) 490-0022 and the desk will point you to the right beginner class.
3 beginner classes + a Party Pass for $49
A $137 value. No partner needed. Classes expire 30 days from your first class.
Q.05Where do I actually dance country after class?
Visit the studio first. The studio hosts Saturday and Sunday country socials, and socials every weekend across its other styles. Your Party Pass gets you into a social so the patterns leave the classroom.
Then you take it out: weddings, country venues, any floor that plays a two-step. The point of Bobby and Jim’s classes is the version you will use in the wild.
Browse upcoming events, or get party reminders by text.
Q.06What should I wear, and where is the studio?
Wear comfortable clothes you can move in and shoes with a smooth sole. Boots with a smooth leather sole work. Sticky rubber soles grip the floor. Dressy attire is not required.
Studio 22 Dallas is at 14902 Preston Road, Suite 400, Dallas, TX 75254, with free shopping-center parking. Call (972) 490-0022 if you need directions.
Country dancing in Dallas is a family, not a single step. Start with two-step, add Progressive Double or waltz when you are ready, use the $49 intro, and go to a weekend country social before you decide. The live two-step page has class details and the current calendar.
