You hear a song you already like, watch a couple turn without looking at their feet, and think I could never do that. Then you search salsa classes in Dallas and land on a wall of nightclub flyers and “intermediate” rooms. That's the wrong first door.
Q.01What is salsa, and can a beginner start?
Yes. Salsa is a social partner dance with Cuban and African roots, built for nightclub energy: timing, a few patterns, then spins and musicality as you get comfortable. Beginners usually surprise themselves in the first 90 minutes. The class isn't a performance. It's walking on time, then adding a turn.
At Studio 22, a salsa class is 90 minutes with two instructors in the room. You learn the timing and patterns you can actually use at a social. Partners rotate, so coming solo is the norm.
Sergey Korshunov and Michelle Hafle teach the Latin program. Both are professional International Latin American dancers and studio owners. They compete worldwide as a partnership, and they still put absolute beginners in the same room as people who have been coming for years.
Q.02What other Latin dances can I learn in the same program?
Salsa is the headline. The same Club Latin track also includes:
- Bachata — a walking Cuban hip motion with a distinctive “pop,” danced in open or closed position. Intimate, musical, and easy to start.
- Merengue — if you can walk, you can start merengue. Steady, upbeat, and the gentlest first Latin dance for getting your hips moving.
- Casino Rueda — salsa danced in a circle. A caller leads the room through partner-swapping patterns. Very social once you have the salsa basics.
You don't have to pick one forever. The intro offer lets you mix styles or stay in Latin.

Salsa, bachata, merengue, and Casino Rueda. 90-minute classes, two instructors, no partner required.
Q.03Do I need a partner for salsa class?
No. Group classes rotate partners, so coming solo is normal. Rotation is how you learn to lead or follow clearly instead of memorizing one person’s habits.
If you want to stay with the same person the whole night, that's a different format: Studio 22’s couples-only Date Night has no rotation. November’s Date Night is Bachata on Friday, November 13, 8–10 PM. Salsa group class is the one where you rotate. You'll dance with several people, which is also what happens at a Latin night.
Never danced? That's expected. Read how to start dancing in Dallas as a beginner for the first-class checklist.
Q.04How does the $49 intro work for salsa?
New students get 3 beginner-friendly 90-minute group classes plus 1 Party Pass for $49 (a $137 value). You can put all three classes on salsa, or mix in another style. Classes expire 30 days from your first class, not from the day you buy. No long-term commitment. Checkout is through Mindbody.
New series start the first week of the month (the 1st through the 7th). After you buy, call (972) 490-0022 and the desk will point you to the right beginner class.
3 beginner classes + a Party Pass for $49
A $137 value. No partner needed. Classes expire 30 days from your first class.
Q.05Where do I actually dance salsa after class?
Visit the studio first. Weekly salsa socials are on the calendar, and there are socials every weekend across the other styles. Your Party Pass gets you into a social so the patterns leave the classroom.
Then take it out: clubs, weddings, any night that plays salsa. Sergey and Michelle teach the version you'll use in the wild, not a routine you can only do in one room.
Browse upcoming events, or get party reminders by text. If you also want a first dance for a wedding, the wedding lesson guide covers private choreography.
Q.06What should I wear, and where is the studio?
Wear comfortable clothes you can move in and shoes with a smooth sole. Sticky rubber soles grip the floor and make turns harder on your knees. Dressy attire isn't required.
Studio 22 Dallas is at 14902 Preston Road, Suite 400, Dallas, TX 75254, with free shopping-center parking. Call (972) 490-0022 if you need directions.
Salsa is a social dance you can start with zero experience, in 90-minute beginner classes, no partner required. Start in the first week of the month, use the $49 intro, and go to a weekly salsa social before you decide it isn't for you. The live salsa page has class details and the current calendar.
