You picked a song. You pictured the room going quiet. Then you pictured the two of you standing there, not quite sure what to do with your feet. That gap — between the song you love and a first dance you will actually enjoy — is what wedding lessons are for.
Studio 22 Dallas treats the first dance as private work for the couple, not a crowded group class. This guide covers when to start, how many lessons most couples need, what a 45-minute session includes, and how to book without turning practice into another wedding-stress item.
Q.01When should we start wedding dance lessons?
Most couples start 2–3 months before the wedding. That window is long enough to learn, laugh, and refine without cramming the week before you leave town.
Studio 22 aims for a weekly rhythm so you have time to practice between lessons. For a five-lesson package, five sessions would normally take about five weeks. The studio plans about a 7-week window before you depart for the wedding so a sick day or work trip does not panic the plan. Last-minute prep is available when schedules allow — start with a single lesson if the date is close.
If you want a couples class that is not a first-dance project, look at Date Night instead. Those nights keep you with your partner the whole time, with no rotation.
Q.02Do we need a group class, or private lessons?
Private lessons. Wedding work at Studio 22 is 45-minute private instruction for the couple. You are not rotating through the room, and you are not sharing the choreography with a class.
Shared studio space is the default. A private room may be available for an extra fee — ask the desk when you book. The point of the format is simple: both of you get coached together, on your song, at your pace.
Group classes are still a good way to get comfortable on a social floor after the wedding, or if you want a hobby beyond one dance. New students can start with the $49 intro. For the first dance itself, stay in private lessons.
Q.03How many lessons do most couples need?
Five lessons (the Signature package) is the usual path for a polished, comfortable first dance. Choose Elite (10 lessons) if you want more choreography, lifts, or less practice time at home. A single lesson is the way to test the fit before you commit to a package.
You keep one path the whole way — the same guide from first lesson to last — so the dance stays consistent. Packages are priced per couple (up to two people). Current prices live on the wedding page, not in this article, because they change.
Custom choreography to your song
45-minute private lessons, priced per couple. Start 2–3 months out, or last-minute when schedules allow.
Q.04What happens in a wedding lesson?
You bring the song. The instructor builds custom choreography around the music, your personalities, and how flashy or simple you want to go. Couples do rumba, waltz, salsa, swing, tango, and more — whatever matches the track and your comfort.
A typical 45 minutes covers a few patterns you can actually use, timing, and connection. Nobody needs a movie lift. Clean basics, danced on purpose, photograph well and get the applause.
Between lessons, a little practice at home is enough. The weekly spacing is what makes the dance stick. Arrive a few minutes early to check in. Changes, rescheduling, and cancellations should be requested at least 24 hours in advance, or the lesson may be counted as taken.
Q.05What if one of us has never danced?
That is the normal starting point. Instructors teach leading and following from the ground up and adapt so you progress together, not one person ahead of the other.
If you already take group classes, you can still use wedding lessons for the reception dance. The two tracks do different jobs: group class is social dancing with rotating partners; wedding lessons are your song, your hold, your timeline. New dancers who want a first taste of the studio before a package can read how to start as a beginner.
Q.06How do we book, and why is a package required to hold times?
A package on your account is what holds weekly times. Once lessons are purchased, the desk locks in dates that work for both of you. That step keeps the first-dance practice on the calendar instead of lost in the wedding to-do list.
If you want to talk first — song, date, who is paying — use the wedding lessons inquiry. Gift cards are available if someone else is buying.

TakeawaysThe bottom line
Start 2–3 months out, book weekly 45-minute private lessons, and let the studio build the dance to your song. Five lessons is enough for most couples; ten if you want more. Prices are per couple and listed on the live wedding page. The next step is to pick a package — or send the inquiry if you still have questions.
